IT work is usually expensive. Will this cost a lot?

I have researched other website design companies with regards to their services and pricing. Some charge an exorbitant amount such as over £1000 for a few pages. I feel that this is a rip-off. I charge £50 for each page so an average site of 5 pages will be £250. However, depending on the requirements of the site e.g lots of interactive features which take time to prepare, I will reach an agreed price with the client.
